Our Mission

The Education Alliance of Coastal Virginia (EACOVA) is an independent advocate of higher education in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.  We are a not-for-profit organization of colleges, universities and higher education professionals whose purpose is to provide higher education information, resources and services for business, industry and government agencies in our region.

Our member institutions will help your organization customize onsite education fairs, college days, or mini-education series for your employees.  Please contact us below for information on how to arrange an event for your organization.

Our Vision

EACOVA member institutions, abiding by standards of cooperative conduct, work together to provide, promote, and plan education activities for corporate development, employee growth, and lifelong learning as a service to businesses and community organizations.

EACOVA seeks to establish an ongoing dialogue between member institutions and leaders in business and government that will foster the understanding of post secondary options for working adults.

By providing cooperative programs, EACOVA helps to minimize the research necessary for prospective students and facilitate the identification of programs that are suited to the student's learning style, goals and scheduling requirements.

FAQ's

Frequently asked questions

What is EACOVA?

The Education Alliance of Coastal Virginia is an organization of schools who all offer higher learning opportunities to adult learners.

What is an education fair?

An education fair is much like a trade show for higher education. A number of schools set up table displays and provide materials and information about their schools and the degrees that they offer.

What can EACOVA do for me and my company?

If you offer tuition benefits to your employees, an Education Fair arranged with EACOVA on your work site can provide a "one stop" opportunity for your employees to gather information about educational choices. Our organization is comprised of 17 different schools offering a variety of educational opportunities. We will work with your Human Resources department to make the arrangements or EACOVA can organize the Fair for you

I have a small company, how can you help me?

EACOVA works with companies of all different sizes. Whether or not you offer tuition benefits, if you promote higher education opportunities to your employees you will be encouraging them to improve their skills. Employees with better skills deliver an improved work product for your company.

I have a large company, how can you help me

EACOVA is very experienced in working with large companies. We can help you arrange Education Fairs across multiple sites, over several days at one site, or across several shifts at a site so that the greatest number of employees have the opportunity to access the information about the various schools.

What colleges are in EACOVA?

An up-to-date list is displayed on our home page. Each listing provides a direct informational link to the representative of each college. You may also contact us for more information

What kinds of classes are offered?

It varies from school to school. Many offer online classes, others specialize in the classroom experience. There are community colleges that offer occupational certificates and Associates degrees and colleges and universities that offer various Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees and even Doctoral degrees. There are schools that specialize in technical fields and others that offer excellent business, science or social science programs. The ability to provide information of this variety is one of EACOVA's greatest strengths and benefits to an employer

Can students graduate with a degree?

Yes. All of our schools must be regionally accredited and offer local classroom-based learning opportunities that lead to an Associates, Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degrees. Schools that offer only certificate programs or online classes with no local community connection or presence may not be members of EACOVA.

Who do I contact to find out more?

You may contact any one of the schools. Each school link on the home page will take you to the EACOVA representative at that school who will help you set up an EACOVA Education Fair. You may also contact the organization directly to find out more information, ask questions or set up an event.

"The ease was incredible! All I did was pick a date and EACOVA did the rest including sending me the advert to post on my electronic bulletin board. I will definitely use EACOVA again."

Our employees were excited to hear about the Education Fair when it was announced, and they've been quick to tell us that they found the exhibitors helpful and encouraging. In the days since you were here, we've seen an increased number of inquiries into our Education Assistance program from employees wanting to go back to school.
